I'm a creative technologist and producer working on 3d experiences & software development.

 

Producing, designing and developing new ideas, products and immersive experiences. Always aiming to bring a bit of wonder, play and magic to the world.

 

I mostly work with games engines and realtime technology, including hardware, software and content projects across location based media, in venues & museums, as well as brand projects with IP partners.

Currently working freelance at a start-up, called ROOM, rethinking the way we do communications in our day to day lives. Leading a team of developers & engineers (building a new web games engine), UX designers and 3D artists working on software magic, innovation and experiences in 3d.

My skills and experience cross a number of areas in software & interactive content development. I work with computer vision, immersive & interactive technology, virtual production, projection mapping & sensor based media, interactive screens & mobile applications, physical computing, AI and mixed & augmented reality and more.

I'm especially interested in how this tech can help to transform our experience of being, learning and playing together in remote and blended ways.

If I'm imagineering, ideating, experimenting, collaborating and prototyping you'll find me at my happiest. I'm so lucky to be doing this in my freelance work, and formerly as Director of the the Experimental Technologies Lab in the Institute for Art and Technology in Liverpool. As well as several other roles over the past 20 years.

I try to support others as best I can, and co-direct the Immersive Liverpool Network, working with companies, talent and organisations developing immersive innovation in the North West UK, with whom I have developed several projects, fundraising collaborations, events and initiatives.

I sit on the Liverpool LEP Digital Board as an ambassador for future talent and regional development in emerging technology and also run a number of events, including the Immersive Storytelling Experiences conference.

 

In 2014, I started the pioneering Immersive Storylab as an R&D collective to explore the potential of mixed & augmented reality storytelling, with whom I still collaborate with on several projects in mixed reality. In 2020  I was made part of the BIMA 100 in the 'Creatives and Designers' category, an award that recognises 100 people for leading on ideas, products and services in the creative digital industries.

My work includes commissions, consultancy & R&D collaboration with organisations such as UNESCO, BBC, Aardman Animations, Intel, BT, Granada TV, United Nations, Avid, NHS, JISC, the FA, Sport England, Virgin as well as work with a SMEs & Cultural Organisations. I have also led and developed a number of funded research and development projects with organisations such as the AHRC, Innovate UK, Arts Council, Heritage Lottery, Digital Catapult, UNDP, HEFCE and JISC. 

I am also a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts (FRSA) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) as well as being a partner & dad , a guitarist and a chinese rock star.
